Lionel Messi’s presence at the 2026 World Cup has been called into question, but Argentina team-mate Cristian Romero claims the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner will “easily” make it to that event. The all-time great has, at 38 years of age, conceded that fitness concerns could lead to him missing out on the defence of a global title in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Cristian Romero has welcomed the arrival of an “organised” coach at Tottenham, which could be considered a swipe at former boss Ange Postecoglou. Spurs are now working under the guidance of Danish tactician Thomas Frank, with a change in the dugout being made over the summer after stumbling to a 17th-place finish in the Premier League last season.
Tottenham defender Cristian Romero has insisted that he never said he wanted to leave the club in the summer ahead of signing a new contract at the club. The World Cup winner was heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid but instead committed his future, whilst also being appointed club captain.
Injured Spurs star James Maddison took to social media to vent his frustration at the quality of refereeing in his side's London derby against rivals West Ham. The attacking midfielder was reacting to the decision to rule out Cristian Romero's goal for a foul by Micky van de Ven. Maddison also took aim at the officials for their start to the new season.
Atletico Madrid are planning to launch a fresh bid for Cristian Romero as the Argentine is set to reject Tottenham's contract offer. Spurs chief Daniel Levy has reportedly decided to offer the defender a new contract, although the player will reject it. Diego Simeone is determined to sign a new defender and is prioritising the former Atalanta star.
Cristian Romero’s absence from Tottenham Hotspurs’ 2024-25 kit launch video has sparked fresh hope for Atletico Madrid in their pursuit of the Argentina defender. Los Rojiblancos boss Diego Simeone is pushing for a deal this summer, but Spurs are standing firm on their £60 million ($82.2m) valuation despite reports of financial pressure in North London.
