Chung-Yong Lee considering A-League move after Crystal Palace exit

The A-League could be on the cusp of securing another Asian football star with South Korean winger Chung-Yong Lee reportedly assessing options in Australia.

After four seasons in the English Premier League with Crystal Palace, the 30-year-old is a free agent with UK work permit issues meaning he'll be forced to explore moves away from the region.

The Bolton News reports that of his next possible destinations, Australia along with Belgium, Japan and Turkey are all being looked at.

The former Bolton midfielder played just nine times for Palace last season with a desire for first-team football set to dictate his next move.

“I do not stick to the big league name," Lee told Korean press recently.

"I am looking for a team that can steadily play the game again by raising my playing power."

With 79 caps for South Korea to his name, Lee was included in South Korea's preliminary 2018 World Cup squad but missed the final cut with a lack of club minutes doing him no favours.

Melbourne Victory confirmed the signing of Japanese star Keisuke Honda last week with Lee a potentially ideal further addition from Asia.

Newcastle Jets have a history of dabbling in the region and have made just one addition this off-season - making them prime candidates to try and land the South Korean.

After finishing second last A-League season, they've secured a spot in the preliminary rounds of the Asian Champions League and could follow Victory in making the most of the 3+1 squad rule which allows for three foreign and one Asian player to be included in ACL squads.
