'Put him up for sale!' - Phil Foden savaged after being caught on camera smiling despite Man City being 2-0 down to Tottenham as real reason for laughter is revealed

With Tottenham two goals to the good on Saturday afternoon, England international Foden was caught smiling on the City bench. This has angered some fans, although it has emerged that the 25-year-old appeared to guffaw at Spurs supporters singing a 'Champions of Europe' chant following their Europa League success. 

@TheArsenalDan wrote on X: "City losing 0-2 to Spurs, camera cuts to Foden immediately after they concede the second. This is his face. No wonder he can't get in the side, man's not serious."

@333ccoco tweeted: "2-0 down and Foden is laughing. Embarrassing."

And @xabilution1 commented: "They are goals down and this mf is laughing. Time to put Foden up for sale."

After winning the Premier League player of the season award in 2023-24, Foden has struggled to hit those heights again ever since. The City academy product was one of their best players, and now he is among the substitutes. He came off the bench in the second half against Tottenham but was unable to stop them falling to a 2-0 home defeat.

Foden and his City team-mates - who won the Champions League in 2023 - will hope to bounce back from this setback, which came after a rousing 4-0 win at Wolves in their Premier League opener, when they travel to Brighton next Sunday in their third game of the new season.
