RB Leipzig are navigating one of the most turbulent summers in their history, defined by a record sale and a failed attempt to reinvest the windfall. The confirmed departure of Yan Diomande to Real Madrid for a base fee of €125 million, rising to €140 million with bonuses, represents the club's biggest-ever transfer and one of the largest in Bundesliga history. The 19-year-old winger had scored 13 goals and registered 10 assists in 36 appearances during his debut season, earning attention from Liverpool, PSG and Manchester City before Leipzig held firm for their asking price and Real delivered.

The challenge now is replacing him. Leipzig had identified Hoffenheim striker Fisnik Asllani as their primary target, agreeing a €25 million fee with the Bundesliga rivals. The deal collapsed at the final stage when Asllani failed a medical at Leipzig's pre-season training camp in Austria, with the club citing unspecified medical concerns. Hoffenheim moved quickly to confirm Asllani would remain in Sinsheim. Leipzig then made a late approach for Wolfsburg forward Dzenan Pejcinovic, but he had already committed to VfB Stuttgart for the same €25 million fee. The club enters the new season without a recognised striker signing, a significant gap given their Champions League commitments.

There is further uncertainty on the wings. Italian reports link Norwegian winger Antonio Nusa, valued at €60 million, with a move to Roma, which would mean Leipzig losing both their primary wide attackers in a single window. New head coach Martin Demichelis, who replaced the sacked Ole Werner this summer, faces a pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich on August 15 with his squad still far from settled.
