Saudi Arabian singer Rabeh Sager has been detained by the authorities for performing the ‘dab’ dance move during a concert at King Fahad Cultural Centre in Taif city, Riyadh, on Monday night.

Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Sharif, secretary-general of the National Committee for Narcotics Control, claimed that this dance is performed by drug addicts.

“Perhaps it (the dance) was performed by an artist, but we trust that it was unintentional,” Okaz newspaper quoted Al-Sharif.

The ‘dab’ dance has become very popular among footballers. It was popularised by Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. Pogba joined the Red Devils last season for a then world record transfer fee of £89.3 million from Juventus. A youth product of the club, the French midfielder rejoined them after a span of 3 yeaers.

A flamboyant and stylish player on the pitch, Paul Pogba introduced and popularised the much famous ‘dabbing’ into football. It became a trademark celebration of the player and soon several other footballers joined the trend.
