French Ligue 2 club Lens confirmed that Erasmus had joined them for the rest of the season on their official Twitter account on Friday.
Erasmus had struggled for regular game time since arriving at Rennais on a two-and-a-half year deal from Pirates midway through the 2015/16 campaign.
The former SuperSport United forward made only 10 Ligue 1 appearances for Rennais without finding the back of the net in the process.
The club has since handed him an opportunity to relaunch his career at Lens, who are pushing for promotion to the Ligue 1, this season.
They are placed second on the Ligue 2 standings with 35 points - having won four of their last five games. Log leaders Brest are three points above them.
Erasmus is expected to compete with fellow strikers Kevin Fortune, Christian Lopez and Viktor Klonaridis. Lens are currently coached by Frenchman Alain Casanova.
He explained how the move came about, and reveals that manager Alain Casanova saw potential in him; something he says made him want to join Lens.
“Before I got to Lens, I had talked with [Lens coach] Alain Casanova. He told me that here was a top team and he was happy to welcome me,” Erasmus told the club’s official website.
“I did not play as much as I had hoped for under the colours of Rennes, but I'm glad that Lens has contacted my agents and I, and him showing interest in me, it means that I too am a pretty good player,” he said.
Erasmus said his main objective is to play as many games as possible and help Lens return to Ligue 1 at the end of the season.
“My objective is obviously to play regularly and help the team to go up in Ligue 1 and thus contribute to the victories of the team,” he continued.
“Football is a collective sport. So, I am not here to achieve personal goals. I will do anything to help the collective sense of the term,” concluded Erasmus.
