Fabrizio Ravanelli says that it is his "dream" to become the Middlesbrough manager.
The 48-year-old played at the Riverside for just one season, scoring 17 league goals in 1996-97 as the club were relegated from the Premier League.
He has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Boro owner Steve Gibson, admitting that the fans are still in his heart.
"One day it's my dream to come back to Middlesbrough as manager," Ravanelli told Sky Sports .
"Aitor Karanka is a fantastic manager, but if he one day he leaves, Steve, call me.
"Every one of the Middlesbrough fans is in my heart.
"I wish the maximum for the Middlesbrough team and the club. I love Middlesbrough."
Middlesbrough are currently 16th in the Premier League table, just four points above the relegation zone.
