What to expect from Philadelphia Union 2025/26?
Philadelphia Union kicked off life in the MLS as an expansion team in 2010. Despite finishing as US Open Cup runners-up in 2014, 2015 and 2018, they didn’t catch the attention of the Stateside soccer media until claiming their first Eastern Conference crown and Supporters’ Shield during the COVID-affected 2020 season.
Philadelphia backed up their impressive 2020 regular season showing, finishing 2nd and 1st respectively in the Eastern Conference in 2021 & 2022. They would also finally made their mark in the playoffs in 2022, as they went all the way to the MLS Cup Final, only to suffer a penalty shootout defeat to Los Angeles FC. That heart-breaking loss hit Philly hard and they failed to find their feet last season, eventually finishing 12th in the Eastern Conference, which meant they wouldn't be heading to the playoffs. It also brought an end to Jim Curtin’s 10-year reign at Subaru Park.
Thankfully for the Philly faithful, Union have rediscovered their touch during this current campaign under new South African boss, Bradley Carnell, who helped guide them to the Supporters' Shield. They'll now be looking to maintain their momentum in the playoffs. Defence was key for Philadelphia’s rise to the top of the standings, so they’ll be looking to the likes of Jakob Glesnes, Kai Wagner, Olwethu Makhanya to maintain their solid form at the back. Up front, Tai Baribo is the only Philly player to hit double figures on the scoring front, so his goals will prove vital to their progress.

The venue has been the home ground of MLS side, the Philadelphia Union, since it first opened in 2010. Aside from soccer, Subaru Park has staged numerous rugby union matches, including college games, an English Premiership match between Newcastle Falcons and Saracens and an international between USA and the Maori All Blacks
