Nakumatt midfielder blames dad for leaving Gor Mahia

Nakumatt midfielder Joseph Timonah Wanyonyi has blamed his father for orchestrating the 'ill-advised' move from Gor Mahia three years ago.

In a lay-it-bare interview with KBC Channel One, the midfielder, who left K'Ogalo in 2014 for arch-rivals AFC Leopards under a cloud of storm, said that his father instigated the whole plot, which he regrets. Wanyonyi believes that it was an ill-advised move which has hindered his career development.

"Gor Mahia is the biggest club here (in Kenya) and they treat their players differently compared to here, at Nakumatt. I made a mistake, I blame myself and my dad. I blame my dad, a 100 percent. I blame my family.

He added, "The moment I left Gor Mahia my performance went down. My dad forced me to go play for AFC Leopards because he played for them, but it was a wrong move. Moving out of Gor Mahia killed my career and I think I need to go back there."

Reflecting on his stint with K'Ogalo which saw him win the league title in 2013 under Scot Bobby Williamson, the 25 year-old said; "I went there and won the title with them after 18 years and I want to go there to win the league title with them again," he said in reference to K'Ogalo's league conquest after an 18-year hiatus, in 2013.

"I am always on the chairman's case (Ambrose Rachier) to take me back."

Indeed, at K'Ogalo, Wanyonyi's star shone earning call-ups to Harambee Stars due to his impressive club performances as a deep lying attacking midfielder. Things however, took a downward spiral upon moving to Ingwe and he's never been the same player since.

Even a move to eleven-time champions, Tusker from AFC Leopards could not help him reinvent his career. Though currently with league side Nakumatt, Wanyonyi still appears unsettled.
