Millwall v Scunthorpe United Betting: Lions can make home advantage count

Scunthorpe may have won their last five consecutive matches in the regular League One season but it wasn't enough for the Iron to chase down the top two after a poor couple of months at the turn of the year.

Now Graham Alexander's men line up against a Millwall side who finished nine points inferior to them in the table.

Despite that, the Lions are Even money (2.0) favourites to come out on top at the New Den, the visitors as big as 14/5 (3.80) with dabblebet, who are 5/2 (3.50) that the first leg of this play-off clash finishes all square.

There was a sickness bug going around the home camp last weekend, leaving Neil Harris with a much depleted squad, although Millwall eventually prevailed in their trip to Bristol Rovers, winning 4-3 to secure their play-off spot.

If the squad are fully recovered, and the most recent reports suggest that is the case, then they have every reason to be confident about the visit of a side who have struggled on the road against the better teams in the division throughout the campaign, despite their lofty standing after 46 rounds of fixtures.

In their nine games against the top 10 teams in League One, Scunthorpe picked up just four points, failing to win any of those matches, so it's understandable to see them listed as significant outsiders in this intimidating venue where they lost 3-1 just a month ago.

The Lions have a pretty poor away record themselves so they'll need no reminding of the importance of capitalising upon this first leg if they're to have a decent chance of going one better than their defeat to Barnsley at Wembley in last year's final.

Given the fact that they've beaten four of the other top seven sides at this venue already, Millwall look a solid enough selection at Evens (2.0) to come out on top again. It's 14/1 (15.0) that we see a repeat of the last time these two teams met, but this match could be a little tighter given the situation and what is ultimately at stake across the next 180 minutes of football for both sides.

The visitors do come into this game off the back of that impressive run but their previous three victories came against three of the four relegated sides, so they face a much stiffer test here and their travel sickness against the better teams shouldn't be ignored.
