Mark Mayambela: The former former Orlando Pirates winger joins Cape Town City

Cape Town City has officially announced the signing of former Orlando Pirates winger Mark Mayambela on an undisclosed deal.

‘Professor’ has been training with the Citizens in the past few weeks in an aim to secure a deal in the Mother City and has seemingly impressed his former Buccaneers teammate now coach, Benni McCarthy.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants announced the new signing on their social media platforms on Tuesday afternoon.

“Home and readier than ever!  Mark Mayambela, officially a Citizen,” said the club in a statement.

The Cape Town-born midfielder has been without a club after parting ways with Chippa United at the end of the 2018/19 PSL season.

Although he has been linked with a return to Bloemfontein Celtic, the dribbling wizard surfaced at the Citizens where he has landed a deal.

In addition, media reports suggested that chairman John Comitis was not going to hand the former SuperSport United player a contract after signing Fagrie Lakay from Bidvest Wits, but it seems they changed their plans and offered the 32-year-old a deal.

With the Citizens sitting at number 10 with eight points from seven games, McCarthy will want his men to bag more wins going forward.

The former MTN8 champions have registered a single win and have five draws plus a single defeat so far.

Fresh from a 3-3 draw against the Buccaneers last weekend, the 32-year-old could make his debut next weekend against Maritzburg United at home on October 25.

Meanwhile, the former Chilli Boys skipper recently trained with Highlands Park, but could not impress coach Owen Da Gama’s technical team.
