Mamelodi Sundowns look to return to the top of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) table as they travel to Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday evening.
It is a must-win clash for Masandawana as they take on a Maritzburg United side who also possess ambitions of their own considering their poor showing this season and fight for survival.
This throws up an intriguing battle and considering both sides head into the game on the back of league defeats, an attacking spectacle is expected at Harry Gwala Stadium.
Sundowns though will be the more confident as they recently booked their place in the next stage of the Caf Champions League with a comfortable 3-0 win over Nigeria’s Lobi Stars.

After being edged out by Kaizer Chiefs on the weekend, it doesn’t get any easier for Eric Tinkler and his troops.
Suspensions will play major role in his team selection with long-term Sundowns target and Maritzburg star Siphesihle Ndlovu suspended along with Miguel Timm.
However, the former has not been as influential as fans have been accustomed to seeing of late, thus putting the spotlight on Fortune Makaringe who has recently come into his own.
Not only has he netted two goals this season, but he is the club’s main creative mastermind having contributed four assists.
Maritzburg have managed to score just 13 goals this season which has undoubtedly been their Achilles heel, and against a side like Sundowns, who have conceded just 17 goals, it does seem like a monumental task.
Tinkler is likely to count on the experience of Thabiso Kutumela, who also has two goals this season upfront and he could partner Yannick Zakri, who will surely love nothing more than to get one over his former team.
BackpagepixMeanwhile, for Sundowns, it’s all about a shift in focus. After the highs of the weekend’s result, it’s all about returning to winning ways in the league and avoiding the same kind of complacency which slipped in against cape Town City.
Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is very likely to make several changes to his squad especially with a trip to Casablanca coming up which could potentially see senior players such Hlompho Kekana, Ricardo Nascimeto and Wayne Arendse among others rested.
Mosimane may continue to show faith in Lebohang Maboe, who continues to lead the club’s league scoring charts with seven goals, and he might be partnered with Emiliano Tade.
Match Preview
This will be the 29th meeting between the two sides in all competitions.
