Maikaba warns Akwa United ahead of Wikki Tourists tie

Akwa United head coach, Abdu Maikaba has told his players they can’t afford to switch off for some part of the game like they did against Enugu Rangers last weekend when they failed to start the game well and allowing the Flying Antelopes to pick a home win, as they welcome Wikki Tourists on Wednesday in one of their outstanding league games.

The Promise keepers could not curtail their hosts in the opening exchanges of the game and allowed the Flying antelopes to hit them very early through the strike of Bright Silas but by the time they came all out after their hosts lead it was too little too late as they surrendered their five match unbeaten streak at the sixth time of asking.

“It was a bad start for us in Enugu. I make it bold to state that my boys started playing after the opening 25 minutes and we were unlucky not to get a draw at least from the encounter. My boys didn’t click on time and by the time they woke up they were a goal down and they were unable to comeback,” Maikaba told Goal.

“We have another opportunity to show who will really are when we host Wikki Tourists on Wednesday. It won’t be an easy game but we are ready to go all out and record another win to improve our league position on the table. It was a bad day in the office for us in Enugu and we are ready to atone for it when we face Wikki on Wednesday and Katsina United on Sunday.”

The defeat coupled with Akwa United’s two outstanding league matches have seen the club slid down the league table as they are now 11th with 33 points from 24 games but they are expected to move back to the top six if they acquire maximum points against the Giant Elephants on Wednesday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
