ISL: FC Pune City recruit Marcos Paqueta as coach

Indian Super League (ISL) outfit FC Pune City have acted swiftly to name a replacement after Serbian coach Ranko Popovic decided to part ways with them. The Stallions have roped in renowned Brazilian youth coach Marcos Paqueta as their new manager, Goal can confirm.

He was a youth team coach at Flamengo for a long time and has been credited with honing many a talent who made it to the senior team from the academy. He also had a short spell with Fluminense in between.

Famously, he coached Brazil to U17 World Cup and the U20 World Cup in 2003. Following that, however, the 58-year-old coach has been on quite a coaching journey in the middle east.

He had numerous stints at clubs like Al Rayyan and Al Gharafa in Qatar, Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, Al Shabab of UAE and Zamalek in Egypt. He also took charge of Saudi Arabia and Libya national teams without much success.

He last coached Al-Shorta SC of Iraq and will now try his luck in the ISL.

The team from Pune will be hoping he can take the team one step further than what Popovic managed to do.
