Rafael van der Vaart has had a cheeky dig at his former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp!

The Dutchman played under Redknapp at Spurs between 2010 and 2012, earning himself cult hero status at White Hart Lane.

Indeed, Van der Vaart was heralded as one of the best deadline day coups of all time, as he joined Spurs from Real Madrid for the paltry fee of £8 million ($10m).

He has since announced his retirement, however, after also playing for Hamburg, Real Betis, Midtjylland and Esbjerg fB.

And with Redknapp heading into the I'm A Celebrity jungle, where he will battle spiders, snakes and Bushtucker Trials that could feature the eating of kangaroo testicles, Van der Vaart has decided to have some fun at his old manager's expense.

"Oh, I should never have announced my retirement," he wrote on Twitter, with an accompanying screenshot showing missed calls from 'Arry Redknapp' and 'ITV Productions', the company who run the show.

Van der Vaart did not win a trophy during his time at Spurs but is fondly remembered for his particularly passionate celebrations against local rivals Arsenal.

In fact, the former midfielder was never on the losing side of a north London derby that he scored in - helping the club to a 3-2 comeback win in 2010, a 3-3 draw in 2011 and a 2-1 win in the same year.

Redknapp, meanwhile, steered the club into the Champions League, and has since managed QPR, Jordan and Birmingham City.

It remains to be seen, of course, how he will deal with creepy crawlies!
