The race for the 2018 Kenyan Premier League Golden Boot will go down to the wire with up to five players gunning for the prestigious award.
With a conversion rate of at least two goals per game (in the last four matches) and just one game left to the end of the season, Kariobangi Sharks’ Erick Kapaito finally caught up with Gor Mahia’s leading scorer, Jacques Tuyisenge at the top.
Elvis Rupia (15), formerly with Nzoia Sugar, is still at the summit though he will not be in contention for the award after he moved to the Zambian league in July.
Behind Kapaito and Tuyisenge are Zoo FC duo of Nicholas Kipkurui and Michael Madoya and Mathare United’s Cliff Nyakeya, all on 13 goals apiece.
AFC Leopards duo of Ezekiel Odera and Whyvonne Isuza are trailing with 12 and 11 goals respectively and cannot be ruled out of the race just yet.
Masoud Juma won the 2017 Award after scoring 17 league goals for Kariobangi Sharks. It remains to be seen whether Sharks will produce another top scorer.
