Desiree Ellis to meet Safa over her Banyana future

Banyana Banyana interim coach Desiree Ellis says she’s hoping to meet Safa over her future in the next few days.

Ellis has been at the helm, albeit on interim basis, since October 2016 and speaking after her sides 3-0 loss to Sweden in Cape Town on Sunday, she said she is expecting to meet her bosses in the next few days to discuss her future. 

“I refer to [all said] since I became the interim head coach in November 2016,” Ellis said.

“I keep referring to because I work as a coach and not as an interim coach. You’ve got to work like that and I will continue working like that because it is my job as a coach to prepare the players," she continued.

“It’s my job as a coach to look forward and if for any reason I am the coach, then I will know what I have got. If not me, I leave the team in a very good position and a very good shape because all of us, whether you are part of this team or not, we want to go to the World Cup," former Banyana player added.

“So I haven’t sat down with anyone as you know it’s been holidays but hopefully it can be sorted out in the next couple of days," she explained.

Under the 54-year-old’s stewardship, Banyana have historically claimed the Cosafa Women’s Championship and also won the African Women’s National Team of the Year award  at the Caf award held in Ghana last month.
 
Banyana are next in action next month when they challenge for the annual Cyprus Women’s Cup starting from 26 February to 7 March 2018.

They will be making their sixth appearance and have been drawn in Group C alongside Hungary, Slovakia as well as Trinidad and Tobago.
