Al-Ahly captain Hossam Ashour warns of early Champions League celebrations

Al-Ahly captain Hossam Ashour has warned his side of early celebrations after winning Friday’s Caf Champions League final, first leg 3-1 over North African rivals Esperance.

The result saw Al-Ahly place one hand on the 2018 Caf Champions League crown as they also neared to a record-extending ninth overall title.

A decorated player with five Champions League titles, a Confederation Cup medal and five Caf Super Cups, Ashour insists his side should put on hold celebrations ahead of the return leg in Rades on November 9.

“So far we have not won the title despite winning by three goals,” Ashour was quoted by Kingfut as having told beIN Sports.

“We have a week to prepare for the return-leg and we will concentrate very well on this game.

“We didn’t want to concede goals but we were playing against a big team like Esperance. The game in Rades will not be easy, we have not won the title yet.”

Growing up at Al-Ahly, Ashour has under his belt more than 100 Caf Champions League appearances and is looking to inspire the Cairo giants to the winners' podium next Friday.

Al-Ahly would still win the Champions League if they lose 1-0 in the return fixture away in Rades, while Esperance are banking on the away goal they grabbed in Alexandria.
