Sunderland’s David Moyes has stated the importance of his ‘only real targetman’, Victor Anichebe ahead of their last two encounters before they head for their English second-tier adventure.
The Black Cats’ 10-year stint in the English Premier League was ended by Bournemouth in a 1-0 loss last month.
But with games against Arsenal and champions elect, Chelsea left to play, the Scot has insisted on having Anichebe with Jason Denayer - both of whom went off injured in weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Swansea - for a final fight in the topflight.
First, the Stadium of Light outfit do battle with Arsene Wenger’s men on Tuesday before bidding farewell to the premier league against Antonio Conte’s all-conquering side on May 21.
“I hope not. I’m needing both of them for the games,” Moyes said during Arsenal’s pre-match press conference.
"We’re away to teams where we might need to play Jason as a centre-back because I need his speed at the back.
“We need Victor as the only real target man we have to play into.
“They’re both really important so I hope they’re not (out for the season) but I’ll find out how they are.”
