  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Egyptian superstar is currently seeing his contract at Liverpool run down. If no fresh terms are agreed at Anfield, then the 32-year-old will be cleared to join another club with no transfer free involved during the summer of 2025.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Salah has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain and teams in the Saudi Pro League, with there no suggestion that he would join a Premier League rival if farewells were to be bid on Merseyside. A retracing of steps to west London would certainly come as a surprise.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Chelsea gave Salah just 19 appearances after snapping him up from FC Basel in 2014, with his reputation having to be rebuilt elsewhere before eventually ending up at Liverpool – where he has won domestic and continental trophies while plundering 227 goals through 371 appearances.

    WHAT GALLAS SAID

Ex-Blues defender William Gallas believes Chelsea have no need to explore the option of re-signing Salah, telling Prime Casino: “I think Chelsea should reject the chance to sign Mohamed Salah as a free agent this summer, I think he would be a disruption on the squad.

“The current Chelsea team are all learning and growing together and it’s working for Enzo Maresca. They are all part of a generation with no big egos, despite Cole Palmer being the focal point. I think bringing in a player like Salah wouldn’t be good for the balance of the squad, despite his form in the Premier League and how it would weaken Liverpool.”

  • WHAT NEXT FOR SALAH?

It is difficult to see why Salah would consider a return to Chelsea, even if he does still have something of a point to prove there. Liverpool will be hoping that they can agree a contract extension with their talismanic winger, allowing him to remain in surroundings where he is treated like a sporting king.
