'Go back to your wife and boys' - Wayne Rooney urged to leave Plymouth and return to Coleen as furious fans vent after seeing winless run reach nine matches with Oxford defeat

Rooney's troubled tenure as Plymouth boss hit another low on Sunday as his team were comfortably beaten 2-0 by Oxford. The result is a 13th defeat in 23 Championship games and leaves Rooney's men bottom of the table. Plymouth have now conceded 51 times in the Championship and angry supporters are urging the Manchester United legend to move on.

Plymouth fan @FIWCHAMP09 posted on X: "If Rooney had any respect for football he would resign tonight, go back to your wife and boys Wayne."

Another supporter, @tpottage03, added: "Get him gone. Players, management, board room. Disgraceful the lot of 'em. How dare the players come over at full time acting like they gave everything."

And user @JannerBucky wrote: "How are people still there clapping, that was an awful watch. Rooney has to go and bring someone in to start a rebuild ready for League One."

One fan, @richgranville, said: "In light of the rumours and the dreadful run of results culminating in us being further away from safety and the fact there is a transfer window coming up, get rid of Rooney NOW and bring in a coach that wants to be here."

And @LOSNE38 urged Plymouth to act now: "Do the right thing @SimonHallettand pull the plug on Rooney. Hasn’t worked out at all. These things happen but it can’t get any worse than this! Irrespective of “injuries” this team looks utterly lost and devoid of any change in fortune. Sadly BCFC fans got this call spot on."

Rooney certainly appears to be clinging onto his job after a disastrous run of nine games without a win that has left Plymouth facing a real battle to escape relegation. Fans are clearly eager for the club to make a change at the helm and bring in a new manager who can turn their season around before it's too late.

Rooney and Plymouth are scheduled to return to action on New Year's Day and will aim to stop the rot against Bristol City at Home Park.
