Former England international Lineker has been associated with Walkers for several years now, with the Match of the Day host appearing in a number of commercials for the snack food manufacturer. He may be about to face serious competition when it comes to fronting advertising campaigns.

That is because eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is looking to get in on the act. The Argentine icon has partnered with Lays – who fall under the same PepsiCo umbrella as Walkers – in the past, and is now ready to bring a bold offering to the market.

Messi, who is famed for his love of mate tea – along with many of his fellow South Americans – has posted on Instagram alongside an image of his face on a new packet concept: “Just when I thought @Lays couldn’t get any better. What do you think of this flavor idea?”

As Messi continues to work with commercial partners off the pitch, on it he is looking to chase down more major honours. He is already the most decorated player of all-time, but is in the running for the 2023 FIFA Best Award – as he attempts to make more history there – and has set his sights on winning every domestic and continental honour available to MLS side Inter Miami in 2024.
