Vivianne Miedema undergoes another surgery to fix chronic knee injury as Man City issue update on star forward's condition

The 28-year-old went under the knife in an attempt to fix the persistent knee issue she has experienced since tearing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) while playing for Arsenal in December 2022. Miedema made a positive impact since arriving at City, scoring twice in five appearances, but will now be sidelined as she recovers from her latest surgery.

"The Dutch international will now begin a period of rehabilitation at the City Football Academy, working closely with the club’s medical team," a City statement read. "Everyone at City would like to wish Viv a full and speedy recovery."

The club also acknowledged that the surgery was successful, although no timeframe was given for her return to action.

The striker issued a defiant "done it before will do it again" message on Instagram and added that "cuddles, some good reading material, Gilmore Girls and the best company" will help her through her recovery.

Gareth Taylor's City side have been in sublime form this season, winning four out of their opening five Women's Super League games and collecting six points from their first two Champions League group stage matches. They travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
