USMNT injury report: All the latest on Christian Pulisic, Gio Reyna, and every Stars and Stripes star's fitness status

The 2022 World Cup is over, but the U.S. men's national team's road to the 2026 tournament on home soil has already gotten started.

It began, in earnest, in January with the annual camp, but the cycle truly begins later this month with the return of the Nations League. Those matches against Grenada and El Salvador will be the first time the team's European-based stars can be called on since their time in Qatar as the U.S. now looks ahead to the next four years.

Over those four years, the U.S. will play in the Nations League, Gold Cup and, most notably, Copa America as they look to lay a foundation for 2026. Much of that foundation, to be fair, has already been laid, with the team already having a number of regular stars in place heading toward 2026.

With that said, here's an update on which USMNT's regulars are dealing with injury issues as the Nations League looms:

    Christian Pulisic

    He's back.

After suffering an injury back in January, Pulisic made his return for Chelsea during the Blues' Champions League triumph over Borussia Dortmund. In that game, the winger came off the bench late as he made a welcome return to a Chelsea team that could use a lift.

It comes just in time for Nations League, too, although it's possible it will take some time for Pulisic to get back to 100 percent after missing two months of action.

After missing the second half of the 2021-22 Serie A season, McKennie nearly missed the start of this Italian campaign.

McKennie suffered a separated shoulder in training as Juventus prepared for the start of the year with a preseason tour of the United States.

Much has changed since then, though. Despite not being 100 percent, McKennie was a fixture for the USMNT at the World Cup and has since made his move to Leeds, where he's become a regular for the club in their fight for Premier League survival.

  • Daryl Dike USMNT 2021Getty Images

    Daryl Dike

The former Orlando City striker is back, and his return may have come just in time for a Nations League callup.

Dike is healthy and scoring for West Brom, having netted three goals in as many games for the Championship club. It all comes after he missed virtually all of 2022, robbing him of a chance to push for a World Cup spot.

The 22-year-old striker seems fully fit now, though, and could be a regular this cycle.

    Tim Weah

The USMNT's first goalscorer in Qatar has found a more regular role with Lille, but not where you would think.

Weah has served as a makeshift left-back for the French side in recent months and, to his credit, he's done it well. It remains to be seen where he ends up long-term but, for now, Weah being healthy and getting minutes is good news for the USMNT.

  • Miles Robinson USMNT 2022Getty

    Miles Robinson

Set to be a starting center-back in Qatar, Robinson suffered an Achilles injury in May that ultimately ended his hopes of playing in the World Cup.

Now, though, he's fully back for Atlanta United, having started each of the team's first two MLS games.

When healthy, Robinson is almost certainly a candidate to start for the U.S. in central defense, making his return a very happy sight for the USMNT.

    Status: Healthy

  • Giovanni-Reyna(C)Getty Images

    Gio Reyna

He's been playing, but it's safe to say Dortmund are still a bit tentative.

Reyna has started just once since the World Cup, although he did play nearly the entirety of Dortmund's recent Champions League match against Chelsea due to Julian Brandt's early injury.

When asked about Reyna a few weeks ago, Dortmund boss Edin Terzic said that the American must be patient as the club is looking to avoid another injury setback. Having seen the midfield starlet miss so much time over the last year, it may be the smart choice as Reyna looks to build himself back up.

    Status: Healthy

  • Sargent Norwich 2023Getty

    Josh Sargent

A recent ankle injury sidelined Sargent for a bit, but it seems he's good to go according to Norwich boss David Wagner.

"He is fully in contention," Wagner said ahead of Saturday's match against Sunderland. "He's trained for the last couple of sessions with the team."

Sargent has been in good form this season, having scored 11 goals in the Championship so far.

    Status: Healthy

  • Mihailovic AZ celebrate 2022-23Getty Images

    Djordje Mihailovic

A relatively hot start to life in the Netherlands was slowed a bit by injury.

Mihailovic, who joined AZ in January after shining with CF Montreal in MLS, recently returned to the lineup for an Eredivisie clash with Vitesse before coming off the bench for the club's Europa Conference League first leg against Lazio.

Mihailovic, who didn't quite break through in time for the 2022 World Cup, could be a good creative option in midfield on the road to 2026.

  • Taylor BoothGetty

    Taylor Booth

The American midfielder has been dominating the Eredivisie with Utrecht, reportedly capturing transfer interest from the likes of Ajax in the process.

Utrecht, however, will be without the midfielder again this weekend against NEC Nijmegen as Booth recovers from an injury suffered on February 24.

That could rob him of a USMNT call-up, unfortunately, as he's missing games just ahead of the Nations League.

    Status: Out since February 24

  • Wright USMNT 2022 World CupGetty

    Haji Wright

Wright, the only USMNT striker to score in Qatar, has missed a lot of time in months since due to a foot injury.

However, it seems he's nearly back and ready to go. Wright came off the bench for Antalyaspor for their recent loss to Kasimpasa, marking his return after a two-month lay-off.

Antalyaspor will need him, too, as they sit just outside the relegation zone in Turkey.
