Cameron Carter-Vickers received the ball at the top of the box, and after being put under pressure, passed it back towards his goal assuming Kasper Schmeichel would be there, but the Danish shotstopper was nowhere to be seen and the ball landed in the back of his own net.

The miscommunication led to Brugge's opener, and left Carter-Vickers with his head in his hands over the brutal own-goal.

Carter-Vickers has 18 caps with the USMNT and was a member of the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad under Gregg Berhalter. However, he has yet to appear under Mauricio Pochettino - missing out on both the October and Novembers camps with the Argentine.

He was, however, a member of the 2024 Copa America squad, including a 45-minute cameo in their infamous 2-1 loss to Panama in the Group Stage that eliminated them from the marquee competition.
