Ted Lasso star bizarrely compares Season 4 revival to dead cat - with Jason Sudeikis bringing American coach back after tears & Apple TV ‘funeral’

Back in 2023, as Lasso bid farewell to AFC Richmond and returned to his native United States, it appeared as though a death knell had sounded for the award-winning production. Viewers around the world were left in mourning.

There were, however, murmurs towards the end of 2024 that a “reboot” was on the cards. It has now been confirmed that Ted Lasso will be returning to streaming services across the globe. The title character, played by Jason Sudeikis, has moved into the women’s game - meaning that there are more stories to be told by new and familiar characters.

Goldstein is on board - with a contract option being taken up alongside the likes of Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple and Jeremy Swift - and foul-mouthed coach Kent is ready to turn the air blue once more.

Goldstein is both excited and surprised that Ted Lasso has been brought back. He told the Wild Card podcast while using an odd analogy to express his emotions: “I have a friend that I went to university with, and I think about this a lot.

“He had a cat that died. He loved his cat, and the cat was run over, and they buried the cat, buried it. And he was a child. They buried the cat in the garden, and he lay in bed so sad, so upset and crying, and he prayed and he prayed and he wished. ‘I wish the cat would come back.’ And then the cat did come back, and it turned out the cat they buried wasn’t their cat. And I think about that all the time.

“I guess I’m saying I feel like that kid. Like ‘We buried it… We all cried, we had a funeral. Are you saying we can bring anything back?’ It’s too much power.”

Goldstein is preparing to embrace that “power” with filming on Season 4 of Ted Lasso set to get underway shortly. There has been no official word on a release date, but a loyal fanbase is being allowed to ‘Believe’ again.
