Ruben Amorim REFUSES to confirm Andre Onana as Man Utd's first-choice goalkeeper despite injury return

At a press conference, Amorim would not confirm whether Onana will start when Arsenal visit Old Trafford for their Premier League opener on Sunday afternoon. The Cameroon international spent pre-season out with a hamstring injury and was expected to return to the line-up ahead of Altay Bayindir.

The future of United's goalkeeping position has been up in the air throughout the summer and it looks as if it is will remain that way regardless of who starts against the Gunners. The likes of Emiliano Martinez and Senne Lammens have been linked with Amorim's side during the transfer window and sensational reports have even touted a return to Old Trafford for David de Gea.

Amorim said: "It's like the other players. Everyone has to win the place. So I'm not going to say if one player is number one. He's ready to go to the game. Let's wait. You will know Sunday."

The belief is that Onana wants to stay and fight for his place no matter what happens in the transfer market. The 29-year-old has three years remaining on his deal after signing for £47.2million ($63.9m) from Inter Milan in 2023 and may have a huge battle on his hands if he hopes to remain at Old Trafford for the rest of his contract. Following Arsenal's visit, United travel to Fulham before an EFL Cup clash away at League Two Grimsby.
