Madrid are ready to bring an end to a transfer saga that has dragged on for years by finally snapping the Frenchman up in a free transfer next summer. According to Marca, Madrid are prepared to offer Mbappe a €26 million (£23m/$29m) salary and a huge €130m (£113m/$143m) bonus for signing.

As his contract at PSG expires at the end of the season, Mbappe can start negotiating with other clubs in January ahead of a potential free transfer. Madrid are expected to resume talks with the 25-year-old but they hope to get the deal wrapped up quickly, having set a mid-January deadline for him to accept their deal or end any hope of moving to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The offer represents one last push to land the forward, with Real having tried to bring him to the Spanish capital for years. They thought they were set to snap him up in 2022 but he opted to renew his contract at PSG. That did nothing to stop further speculation, though, as summer 2023 was dominated by reports of a possible move to Spain after the World Cup winner refused to trigger the option to extend his deal by another year in Paris, meaning it will expire at the end of the current season.

Mbappe will consider his future as he prepares to field offers in January, but Madrid will hope to beat the competition with their staggering proposal that would see him become the highest-paid player in the team.
