Rasmus Hojlund edges closer to Manchester United exit with Napoli open to £39m mandatory purchase clause to secure loan transfer

Denmark international Hojlund has struggled to convince across two seasons at Old Trafford, netting 26 goals through 95 appearances. He is only 22 years of age, but the Red Devils cannot afford to wait on full potential being unlocked.

With that in mind, and with the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha being acquired this summer, United are open to offers for Hojlund. The former Atalanta frontman could soon be heading back to Italy.

Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Serie A champions Napoli are willing to take Hojlund on a season-long loan that includes a mandatory purchase agreement which will be set at £39 million ($52m). Said clause relates to appearances, goals and Champions League qualification.

If that deal goes through, then United will be taking a £33m ($44m) loss on a player that they snapped up for £72m ($97m) just two years ago. Hojlund has not figured for United this season amid the questions of his future.

Ex-United star Scott McTominay, who is now in Naples, is said to have contacted Hojlund regarding a move that will see him join Antonio Conte’s ranks. Napoli are in the market for another No.9 after seeing Romelu Lukaku ruled out for several weeks with a thigh injury.
