PSG learn date and possible opponents for 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup showdown in Qatar

  • Official: FIFA Intercontinental Cup matches to be held in Qatar

    FIFA and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025 have announced that three matches of the revamped tournament will be held in Qatar this year, just like last year.

    The tournament follows the revamped format which was implemented last year and will feature European champions PSG taking on a challenger in the ultimate final on 17 December.

    Three games of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025 set to be held in Qatar will involve three trophies, with teams vying for the FIFA Derby of the Americas, FIFA Challenger Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup trophies. 

    PSG, who qualified for the tournament as Champions League winners, will feature in the final game on 17 December.

    The following games will be held in Qatar:

    1. Match 3: FIFA Derby of the Americas (10 Dec 2025) - Cruz Azul (Concacaf Champions Cup 2025 winners) vs Winners of the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores 2025
    2. Match 4: FIFA Challenger Cup (13 Dec 2025) - Pyramids FC (CAF Champions League 2025 champions) vs Winners of Match 3
    3. Match 5: FIFA Intercontinental Cup (17 Dec 2025) - PSG vs Winners of Match 4
  • Who are the defending champions of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup?

    The current champions of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup are Real Madrid who won the tournament last year, in Qatar. The Los Blancos won after a 3-0 win over Mexican side Pachuca at the Lusail Stadium in Doha.

  • FIFA Intercontinental Cup matches to be held on rest days of FIFA Arab Cup 2025

    Interestingly, the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in Qatar will coincide with the FIFA Arab Cup 2025, which is also being held in Qatar.

    The Arab Cup will run from 1-18 December in Qatar. However, the Intercontinental Cup matches will be held during the rest days of the FIFA Arab Cup.

    Interestingly, Qatar will also be hosting the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup, which is slated to run from 3-27 November, and highlights the country's ability to host simultaneous big tournaments.
