Martin Zubimendi transfer news: How Real Sociedad are trying to convince Liverpool target to reject Anfield move

Sociedad have launched a plan to keep star midfielder Zubimendi despite Premier League giants Liverpool plotting a move. According to The Times, not only will the Spanish club insist the Reds pay the 25-year-old's £51 million ($65m) release clause in one instalment, they have also launched a "charm offensive" to convince him to stay put.

Zubimendi is a boyhood Sociedad fan and has already rejected approaches from both Barcelona and Arsenal, as well as advances from Liverpool in the past. The mood in Spain is one of hope that he will opt to stay where he came through the youth ranks and is settled following a successful Euro 2024 campaign this summer.

Zubimendi played for Spain against England in the Euro 2024 final earlier this summer. The 10-cap international featured in four of his country's seven games in Germany and was a second-half substitute for Rodri in midfield for the final.

A decision is yet to be made by the player but previous reports suggest Zubimendi was open to accepting Liverpool's offer. The draw of Premier League and Champions League football is a difficult proposition to turn down for someone as talented as the Basque-born midfielder.
