Man Utd warned signing Matheus Cunha will not solve their problems with 'terrible' Red Devils told ex-midfielder Scott McTominay the perfect fit for Ruben Amorim

The midfielder-turned-pundit was giving his opinion on United's current woes to Grosvenor Sport. O'Hara questioned Cunha's work rate, pointing towards the player's proclivity for walking during games as a potential red flag. He did admit that the Brazilian is a "brilliantly talented footballer", however.

The ex-Spurs man then pointed to two United rejects that would have worked well under Ruben Amorim's system. Scott McTominay has thrived since moving to Naples, while Andreas Peirera has been a dependable attacking option for Fulham for the past few seasons. O'Hara didn't hold back any punches during the conversation, describing the Red Devils' recent performance against Cunha's Wolves as "dreadful".

O'Hara said: "I’m a bit sceptical of Matheus Cunha. "He’s a brilliantly talented footballer, but has he got the desire to become the best he can be, week-in, week-out for Manchester United? That means working hard and grafting. Cunha is the player that walks the most in the Premier League – is that going to cut it at United? I’m not sure.

“Man United need a centre-midfielder, but Cunha is more of a forward-thinking player. They got rid of a player that would absolutely suit Ruben Amorim’s system, Scott McTominay – he’s lighting up Serie A at the moment. Andreas Pereira is another player United got rid of that would be a perfect fit for them.

“If I was in Cunha’s position, I’d be wondering if I wanted to sign for United in the first place, given their situation; I’m not convinced they’re a good enough side. They were terrible against Wolves and I don’t know where the club is headed in the near future. Apart from Bruno Fernandes, United have nothing else going for them.”

Looking back wistfully over what could have been with McTominay, Pereira and the many other players that seemingly get their mojo back after leaving Old Trafford won't solve any problems for the Red Devils. They need to find some semblance of form in the Premier League before their Europa League semi final tie with Athletic Club. United travel to Bilabo on the 1st May, before hosting the return the following week.
