Man Utd 'verbally agree' deal to keep homegrown hero 'into his 40s' as Ruben Amorim ensures experienced head stays at Old Trafford

Head coach Ruben Amorim wants to keep experienced heads at the club and is set to strike a new deal with goalkeeper Tom Heaton to continue in the goalkeeping department, report The Sun. Heaton is currently 39 and would turn 40 during his additional year.

Heaton has not played a single Premier League minute for United since rejoining the club in 2021 but appears to be a valued member of the squad, providing support for the other goalkeepers. There have also been discussions about a coaching role down the line but this is purely a playing contract.

United have released three out-of-contract first-team players, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen. They have also added to their squad this summer, signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

United have also been linked with moves to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford and Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting. Alejandro Garnacho could leave the club, with Chelsea and Atletico Madrid showing interest.
