'Crime against football!' - Liverpool leave rival fans in utter disbelief with 'greatest smash and grab' to snatch Champions League win at PSG despite Ibrahima Konate VAR red card controversy as Alisson shines

Arne Slot's side faced a tough test against an in-form PSG in the French capital and were outclassed by the hosts but still managed to snatch the win. Goalkeeper Alisson proved unbeatable, while Ibrahima Konate was perhaps fortunate to escape a red card for a shove on Bradley Barcola. Harvey Elliott then popped up with a late winner to hand the Reds the advantage before the second leg at Anfield. Yet the result left rival fans stunned and feeling that Slot's men had been fortunate to say the least.

Manchester United supporter @DevildetailsMU posted: "Smash and grab from Liverpool crime against football!"

And Liverpool fan @SimonBrundish had to agree: "That is the greatest smash and grab in Liverpool history."

User @Logannffc01 added: "Crazy init, Liverpool hang in there with a stinking performance get a smash & grab & it’s labelled “the sign of a great team." Yet, if Forest performed like this & nicked a 1-0 win, we get told “our luck will run out eventually” even from our own fanbase at times. Weird."

Meanwhile, @sulkfenomeno felt the luck had been with Liverpool, adding: "Possibly the luckiest season of all time. I have NEVER seen the stars align and everything fall into a team’s place through nothing but luck as much as for Liverpool this season. They have been destroyed in every metric today."

And @CouchCommentry joked: "Liverpool parking the bus and getting the smash and grab! Mourinho would be proud!"

PSG boss Luis Enrique was also unhappy with the result. He told BBC Sport: "It is difficult to think about the match in a positive way. We deserved to win. The best player of Liverpool was their goalkeeper. Football is many times unfair. We don't have anything lose and we are ready for Liverpool. Of course, we are going to do it."

The victory puts Liverpool in with an good chance of reaching a quarter-final against either Club Brugge or Aston Villa. Slot's men are also in good shape to win three trophies this season as the Reds sit 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League and face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final.

Liverpool head back home to take on struggling Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday before the second leg of their tie with PSG at Anfield on Tuesday.
