  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Dalot left his team-mates stunned after missing a huge chance in the first half of Manchester United's clash against West Ham at the London Stadium. The Portuguese full-back was played through on goal by Bruno Fernandes and flicked the ball past the goalkeeper, but then somehow managed to blaze the ball over the bar with the net gaping. The embarrassing moment prompted plenty of reaction on social media, with some even accusing Dalot of working against his manager Erik ten Hag.

  • WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

One fan, @CasaDupre, believes the defender is actively trying to get head coach Ten Hag sacked, saying: "Dalot wants ETH out. Real real."

@StokeyyG2 agreed, posting a picture of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard missing a penalty having glanced at former manager Roy Hodgson. He said: "Diogo Dalot missing that open goal on purpose to get Ten Hag sacked."

Popular YouTuber @markgoldbridge was simply stunned. His post read: "WTF Dalot!!! That's unmissable...."

@UtdEIIis was furious at the attempt, saying: "Dalot that is f*cking criminal."

Manchester Evening News journalist @samuelluckhurst added: "Miss of the season from Dalot. West Ham fans are celebrating it. He runs onto a long ball, knocks the ball past Fabianski, has an empty net and balloons the ball over."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Dalot's miss highlighted Manchester United's current problem under Ten Hag, which has been a lack of quality. The Red Devils tallied well over 1.50xG during their match against West Ham but their forwards seem to have a problem finding the back of the net. Ahead of the Hammers game, the Red Devils had scored just seven times, the same amount as Chris Wood has managed on his own for Nottingham Forest this season.

  • WHAT NEXT?

United ended up losing 2-1 against West Ham, with the final result piling more pressure on Ten Hag, who must get his team to sharpen up if he wants to stay in the top job at Old Trafford. United will be back in action on Tuesday night at home to Leicester in the fourth round of the League Cup.
