THE BIGGER PICTURE
According to The Independent, Kobel has been shortlisted as an ideal candidate due to his excellent shot-stopping ability and distribution skills. However, Dortmund are not considering a mid-season transfer, particularly because of their ongoing Champions League campaign. They have advanced to the Champions League play-off round and are set to compete against either Sporting CP or Club Brugge for a chance to progress to the last 16, where they could face Lille or Aston Villa.
DID YOU KNOW?
Manchester United have also maintained an interest in Kobel for some time, keeping close tabs on his performances in the Bundesliga. The Red Devils have had their own goalkeeping concerns, as Andre Onana has had his own nervy moments between the sticks since he arrived from Inter. Nonetheless, with manager Ruben Amorim looking to reshape the squad, United's transfer priorities lie in other key positions, which could lessen their immediate pursuit of a new goalkeeper.

WHAT NEXT?
Chelsea's primary challenge, however, would be negotiating with Dortmund, who will not part ways with their No. 1 without an offer they cannot refuse. Additionally, the west London outfit have already secured the signing of promising young Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders from Genk, who will arrive at Stamford Bridge in the summer.
