GettyCharlotte FC is interested in Newcastle's Miguel Almiron, with sources confirming to GOAL that the club has made an initial offer to sign the Paraguayan star. Almiron has been with Newcastle since 2019, and has scored 30 goals in 209 appearances for the Premier League club.
Almiron previously played in MLS with Atlanta United, where he became a star while lifting MLS Cup in 2018. He also has 58 caps for Paraguay and was a member of his country's Copa America squad this summer.
Charlotte FC has also been linked with Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, but sources have confirmed to GOAL that Almiron is the team's priority.
Getty/GOALCharlotte FC had been in talks to sign a different midfielder, Dutch international Calvin Stengs, but those talks have now collapsed. The club had been in talks with Feyenoord over an $8.7 million deal, with a medical set for Monday. However, sources told GOAL that those talks have fallen through.
GiveMeSport was the first to report that the deal for Stengs was in danger of collapsing.
GettyHaving already signed U.S. men's national team star Tim Ream, Charlotte will now look to finalize additional moves ahead of the closing of the MLS Transfer Window on Wednesday. Charlotte FC were eliminated from the Leagues Cup in the group stage and will now look ahead to a return to MLS play on August 24 against the New York Red Bulls.
