  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Bayern Munich have invested in young American talent, bringing in Bajung Darboe in a deal worth around $1.5M, according to GiveMeSport. The midfielder made 14 appearances for LAFC's MLS Next Pro side this year, and trained with Bayern two years ago.

He will make the switch from Southern California to Germany in January. LAFC initially acquired Darboe from Minnesota United in 2023.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Darboe signed a pro deal with LAFC last year, and has caught the eye at youth national team levels. He played in friendlies for the U.S. U17s, and also has eligibility to play for the Finland national team due to his American-Finnish citizenship.

His move follows a number of shrewd sales from LAFC, who have flipped Diego Rossi, Mamadou Fall and Chicho Arango in recent years for significant money.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

LAFC and Bayern Munich have an official partnership. In 2013, The two clubs launched a joint venture to develop talent, described as a "global soccer development cooperation."

WHAT NEXT FOR DARBOE AND BAYERN MUNICH?

With LAFC 2 out of the MLS Next Pro playoffs, it would seem that the midfielder is set to train alone until he makes a move to Germany in January. There is no word as to whether he will stay at the club or go out on loan.
