Chelsea striker Morata set to welcome new arrival

Alvaro Morata has enjoyed 2017, with a Champions League win and £70 million move to Chelsea now complemented by the news that he is to become a father.

The Spaniard has announced on Instagram that his wife Alice Campello is expecting their first child.

Morata posted a picture of himself kissing Campello’s stomach with the message: “The first time I saw you I knew you were going to be the mother of my children and I am sure that you will be the most beautiful and sweet and good mom. I can not love you any more!”

Campello then posted her own tribute to her husband, saying: “You are my happiness, the best husband I could wish for. You are my refuge, my home, my joy, my family. And I am sure you will be the best dad that exists. I love you that my heart breaks.”

Morata and Campello got married in June at a star-studded ceremony in Venice.

The 25-year-old was still a Real Madrid player at that time, having ended the 2016-17 campaign at Santiago Bernabeu with a Champions League victory over Juventus in Cardiff.

He also helped the Blancos to the La Liga title as they completed a famous double, but a lack of regular game time led to him looking for a move elsewhere.

Chelsea quickly put a deal in place, having taken the decision to freeze Diego Costa out of their plans, and Morata was heading to the Premier League.

He has enjoyed a productive start to life at Stamford Bridge, netting 10 times in 22 appearances so far.

Morata has also provided four assists to grateful team-mates, with Antonio Conte having found a suitable successor to Costa as Chelsea set about another trophy hunt at home and abroad.

The Blues will, however, be without their leading marksman in their next outing against Huddersfield.

Morata is nursing a slight knock and will not be risked at the John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday.

Conte said: “Morata is out, because he's a bit tired and there is a problem in his back. He is out.”
