Few strikers in world football have achieved what Alvaro Morata has done by the age of 25. The Madrid-born forward has played for the three of the biggest clubs in football already with stints at Real Madrid, Juventus and now Chelsea.

Having joined the Los Blancos as a 16-year-old old, the soft-spoken Morata went on to claim two UEFA Champions League and as many LaLiga titles before Italian powerhouses, Juventus came knocking for his signature.

Success followed Morata at Turin too in the form of two Serie A titles along with a runners-up medal in the UEFA Champions League.  Such was the impression he made with the Italian club that Real Madrid brought the youngster back to the Spanish capital.

When one talks about a complete centre-forward, Morata is a name that is always at the forefront.

Pace? Check: Morata can breeze away from most centre-backs with ease. Intelligence? Check: whether it’s with back-to-goal or on the shoulder of the last man, he knows where to be. Technical excellence? Strength? Aerial ability? Check, check, check.

Despite success refusing to leave Morata’s side wherever he goes, nothing in life has come easily for him. “Nothing in this life comes free - you have to earn everything that you want to achieve,” he says. “To be successful, you must work hard, be humble and have confidence in who you are.” 

It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the humble star. Along with the highs that his goal-scoring boots have achieved in a still fledgling career, there have been times when things have not gone the Spaniard’s way. His much-talked-about move to Premier League behemoths Chelsea last year has seen periods where the striker has endured barren spells he has never previously experienced.

But Morata is not one to shirk away from a challenge and has been constantly endeavouring to be the best striker that he can be despite leaving his familiar surroundings for a maiden foray into English shores. Leaving your boyhood club to live in a completely foreign land is never easy, more so when you are still making your mark in the football world. But these challenges, in the end, are what drive Morata to the next level.

An FA Cup title to finish the season was just a reward for Morata’s perseverance. A classy player on and off the field, the Spaniard believes respect is the most important attribute in life.

“I believe respect is the most important value to live by,” he insists. “The most successful people in the world are the ones that stick by their values, no matter what.”
