Mark Williams surprised by Camaldine Abraw’s axing at Kaizer Chiefs

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Mark Williams has been surprised by Amakhosi's decision to terminate Camaldine Abraw's contract by mutual consent.

“It’s surprising, but you know players who move from Free State Stars and Ajax (Cape Town) it’s not often that they make the grade (at a big club) especially when you talk about a striker,” Williams told Goal.

The former Free State Stars striker sustained a horrific knee injury that saw him miss the recent 2016/17 season.

Prior to that Abraw scored six times in 28 appearances in all competitions in his first season at Chiefs.

“Maybe they found out that his injury will actually keep him out for a long time," he said.

"The other thing is that maybe he doesn’t fit into the style of play despite the fact that he came with Steve Komphela, who knows him very well.

“In saying that, he is a good striker. You know, it’s just that you find that a lot of good strikers going to big teams and they don’t make the grade,” Williams added.

According to reports on Friday, Abraw is unaware that he has been released by Amakhosi as he believes he is still part of the club.

“So I don’t know what led to him being released, perhaps he didn’t score enough goals. But if you put him in any other team he will finish up and score goals,” Williams concluded.
