The 38-year-old made 217 appearances for the Lions - scoring 52 goals in a six-year spell before his move to Everton.

Milwall have a strong connection to Australian players with Socceroos left-back James Meredith and former Newcastle Jets striker Kristian Brymora currently on their roster.

Lucas Neill, Kevin Muscat and Dave Mitchell have also all played for the Championship side.

Cahill's former teammate Neil Harris is their current manager, although club officials claim reports are nothing more than rumours.

They currently sit 16th on the Championship ladder and are seven points above the relegation zone.
