Mkhalele: Bafana Bafana lived up to expectations against Guinea-Bissau and Angola

Legendary Bafana Bafana winger Helman Mkhalele was nonetheless impressed with the team’s performances in their last two friendly internationals against Guinea-Bissau and Angola.

“I think they played well although there are still areas that need to improve. I’m glad that the young boys came through and performed well. So, it was a good exercise, especially for the young boys,” Mkhalele told Goal .

Bafana beat Guinea-Bissau 3-1 in their first match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, before being held to a goalless draw by Angola in East London.

Furthermore, Mkhalele believes the players performed the way they were supposed to in both matches.

“For me, the players performed the way they were expected to and it’s good for some of them. So, it’s a continuation of all the work that was done a long time ago,” Mkhalele said.

Mkhalele feels Bafana's striking department still needs some polishing, saying the team is creating too many goalscoring chances.

“I think we just need to finish our opportunities. At times, we create opportunities but we don’t finish them and then the opponents get one or two chances and they make use of them. So, I think that’s what we need to work on and improve,” Mkhalele concluded.

Bafana’s next match will see them visit Nigeria in the 2019 Afcon qualifiers in June this year.
