Masilo Machaka backs Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs fan Masilo Machaka has welcomed the changes made at Naturena during the recent transfer window.

The Glamour Boys aquired the services of Reeve Frosler Nigeria goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, who Machaka believes is experienced at both local and international football, and add value to the squad.

“The coach had to sign a good goalkeeper because we all know and see what is happening. The management and the technical team saw the need to bring someone on board in the goalkeeping department,” Machaka told Goal.

“I am quite happy with the keeper, I believe he will prove his worth because (Virgil) Vries was under pressure and he needs to get game time in friendlies and also get our support. I believe he will get better and learn,” he said.

“Yeah, he (Akpeyi) has been in the PSL for many seasons and he brings international experience, he also went to the World Cup. I am sure they were looking for good keepers but some were not available, unfortunately,” he noted.

“I think we don’t only have a problem in the goalkeeping department alone, but in the defence and upfront, we are creating great chances, but not scoring,” added the Glamour Boy.

Moreover, Machaka is confident that Chiefs will bounce back in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium next weekend.

“I am sure things will fall into place as we prepare for the Derby and I was happy to see our coach and (Shaun) Bartlett watching Pirates at Orlando (Stadium) on Saturday night,” he continued.

“I am confident they will get something to work on because they will (Pirates) not win this time around. On the young defender, Frosler is a good signing for the future and will challenge and learn from the likes of Rama (Mphahlele),” he reacted.

With the Soweto giants having seemingly been ruled out of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title race, the well-known spectator has backed his team to focus on the Nedbank Cup title.

“Absolutely, it will be detrimental to focus on the league and the Nedbank. We are not doing very well in the league, but we have a chance in the Cup,” said Machaka.

“We are losing home games in the league and I think we can just focus on the next season and just fight harder in the Nedbank,” acknowledged the supporter.

Speaking about the fact that they will face Magic FC in the Last 16, a side Chiefs will meet for the first time, Machaka says their opponents cannot be underestimated. 

“Look, it will not be easy because these boys are aware of how Chiefs play, but we cannot say the same about them,” Machaka explained.

“Nobody expected the game against Tornado to go into extra time so this tells you the guys are going to cause an upset. Magic will want to upset surprise us,” he added.

“We have experience, quality players but we need to respect any opponent because it is high time we bring something to our trophy cabinet – we just need to be ruthless and bury our chances,” said the Bafana Bafana faithful.

“I am sure the players are aware that their responsibility is to go all out to win this trophy. We have no option but take this one and come back better next season,” he concluded.
