Liverpool’s front three compared to Man Utd’s 1999 Treble winners by former Reds star

Liverpool boast an attacking unit to rival that of Manchester United’s Treble winners, says Jamie Redknapp, with Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane adding fear factor to the Reds.

Back in 1999, Sir Alex Ferguson assembled a fearsome forward line at Old Trafford.

With United competing on multiple fronts, the Red Devils sought to ensure that they had ample firepower at their disposal.

Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole were the favoured pairing, but Teddy Sheringham and current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provided quality support.

All four were regulars on the scoresheet, with opponents rarely able to contain whatever combination Ferguson selected.

A historic Treble was secured as a result, with dominance enjoyed domestically and in Europe.

Liverpool are seeking to emulate the efforts of their arch-rivals, with a Champions League triumph enjoyed in 2018-19.

Jurgen Klopp has the Reds back in contention for a long-awaited Premier League crown this season, with the Reds proving that they can dig deep in order to collect precious points.

Those qualities were showcased again in their most recent outing, as Mane opened the scoring during a trip to Crystal Palace before Firmino snatched a late winner.

Liverpool were able to rest Egyptian star Salah, as he nurses a knock, and still have enough to overcome a top-flight foe and keep themselves on course for more major silverware.

Former Reds midfielder Redknapp has told the Daily Mail of the cutting edge possessed by Klopp’s side: “Liverpool's great threat is that their forwards bring the chaos factor, just as Manchester United used to.

“You'd look at Teddy Sheringham, Andy Cole, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Dwight Yorke and you feared one could score at any moment.

“If the ball was bouncing in the box someone would be there to finish — like Roberto Firmino did at Palace.”

A 2-1 win at Selhurst Park has kept Liverpool eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Their attention is about to shift to European matters and a home date with Napoli on Wednesday, but they will be looking to extend an unbeaten run on a domestic stage when playing host to Brighton on Saturday and Merseyside neighbours Everton on December 4.
