Caf Confederation Cup: Bandari 0-1 Horoya AC: Mandela's strike ends Dockers' continental journey

Bandari FC have crashed out of the Caf Confederation Cup after going down 1-0 to Horoya AC in Nairobi on Sunday.

Ocansey Mandela scored the goal for the Guinean side to see the visitors progress with a 5-2 aggregate win after a 4-2 win in the initial leg.

Fred Nkata made a vital tackle against Aristide Bance in the 13th minute after the Horoya AC star made it easily into the box. Before the Burkinabe footballer took aim at goal, Nkata slid to block him as Felly Mulumba cleared the ball further.

Nkata was at it again when he disposed Mandela right inside the box after the striker was set through on goal by Bance. The Ugandan international reacted quickly and managed to clear the ball without fouling the visiting forward in the 19th minute.

It was Boubacar Samassenko's time to save Horoya AC from the impending danger presented by Abdalla Hassan in the 25th minute. Hassan marvellously collected a throw-in by Atariza Meja and Samassenko brought him down just outside the box before he took a shot.

Willaim Wadri's subsequent free-kick was too direct and feeble, so Moussa Camara had no problem dealing with it.

Bandari's call for a penalty was outrightly dismissed by the referee in the 40th minute. Wadri outmanoeuvred his marker on the left-wing and entered the box but Godfred Asante brought him down in an attempt to clear, an act which resulted in an unsuccessful call for a penalty from the home team.

Yema Mwana would have broken the stalemate in the 44th minute but he dilly-dallied with the ball inviting Alseny Camara to close in and thereby blocking him from taking any meaningful shot despite being in a promising position initially.

Mwana was again the culprit of wasting a golden chance to pull one back for the Dockers in the 58th minute. What he needed was just to tap in a ball which had been delivered across the goalmouth by Wadri on the left-wing but he did not.

Mandela broke the hearts of Bandari in the 65th minute when ran down the right-wing and slotted past Oduor from a tight angle to open the score for the visitors.

Oduor's quick decision to come out of his zone and block Simeon Bolaji who had broke loose from the midfield proved to be a vital move because he managed to block the Horoya striker from scoring another goal in the 83rd minute.

Bandari will now have to shift focus to domestic competitions while Horoya AC progress to the lucrative group stage.
