Anzhi Makhachkala sign Kwadwo Poku until 2020

Ghana striker Kwadwo Poku has joined Russian side FC Anzhi Makhachkala from Miami FC in a two-year deal, the two clubs have confirmed.

The 25-year-old caught the eye of Anzhi boss Vadim Skripchenko following his splendid performance for Miami in the North American Soccer League last season.

"Everything have been finalised so I've signed for Anzhi Makhachkala in a two-year deal," Poku told Angel FM.

"I'm still in the United States preparing to leave for Russia because the club need my service as soon as possible since the second round of the season starts at the end of January."

Opoku admits that the club's history and the attractiveness of the league influenced his decision.

"The Russian League is one of the top leagues in the world and we all know some of the great players that have previously played for the Anzhi in the past even in the Uefa Champions League. So I joined them without hesitations," he said.

He added: "It is one of those things because as a player you want to grow in every aspect. When the offer came from Anzhi, it was difficult to reject looking at their history. Although, there are reports of constant racial abuse in Russia, I will deal with it and hope things improve in that aspect."

Poku made his debut for Ghana in a friendly against Canada in 2015.
