Commentary

That concludes our commentary of the Ligue 1 fixture between Reims and Paris Saint-Germain! We hope you’ve enjoyed it!
Reims are back in action in a week when they travel to play Lorient. PSG host Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday ahead of a big clash on Sunday against Marseille in Ligue 1.
Paris Saint-Germain are held to their first 0-0 since December 2021 as Reims fail to make their 60-minute man advantage pay. The hosts showed impressive signs in the first half but were clearly the more dangerous after the Ramos red card, with Zeneli and Flips amongst those involved in a number of dangerous attacking moves for the hosts. Donnarumma would not be beaten however as frustration grew - with both sides falling victim to ill-discipline; eight yellow cards and one red were shown over the 90 minutes. The result moves PSG three points ahead of Marseille while Reims go 14th.
90' + 6' FULL-TIME: REIMS 0-0 PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN.
B. Locko
Yellow Card
Reims
90' + 3' Locko is the latest to go into the referee's notebook, with the wing-back shown a yellow for dissent.
K. Mbappé
Yellow Card
PSG
90' + 2' Mbappe comes across and takes the legs out from under Gravillon cynically. The forward is shown a yellow card as the match continues to boil over.
Neymar
Yellow Card
PSG
90' + 2' Neymar’s shoulder charge bundles Munetsi over and earns the Brazil international a yellow card.
90' + 1' Neymar’s free-kick is teased in dangerously but Abdelhamid manages to clear the ball away from his goal.
A. Gravillon
Yellow Card
Reims
90' Gravillon is shown a yellow card for his part in the fracas, with the referee keen to punish those involved.
A. Hakimi
Yellow Card
PSG
90' Yellow Card Achraf Hakimi Mouh
89' PSG are given a free-kick just outside the penalty area after Doumbia’s ill-advised challenge on Neymar takes the forward down and sparks a bit of a melee.
A. Hakimi
Pablo Sarabia
PSG
88' Hakimi gets two minutes to make a difference as he's sent on for Sarabia.
86' Doumbia plays a clever disguised pass into the penalty area looking for the run of Munetsi but a sliding Danilo does just enough to make the necessary clearance.
N. Mbuku
D. Lopy
Reims
84' Lopy is recalled to the bench with six minutes remaining. Mbuku is chosen to replace him.
82' Van Bergen works an inch of space ahead of Danilo and hits a quick shot that’s saved comfortably by Donnarumma.
81' Doumbia’s first touch fails him as he’s unable to latch onto Lopy’s fired pass, with Gravillon ready and in position to overlap the substitute and provide an overload. It’s a disappointing end to the attack for Reims, who have just under 10 minutes to make the man advantage pay.
K. Doumbia
A. Zeneli
Reims
79' Zeneli's wonderful match comes to an end as he's brought off for Doumbia.
78' Lopy’s overzealous pressing gets him in trouble with the referee as the midfielder barges Marquinhos over and gives away a free-kick.
M. van Bergen
A. Flips
Reims
76' Reims’ first change of the match sees Flips replaced by Van Bergen.
74' Sarabia curls the free-kick into the penalty area but Neymar fails to put his header anywhere close to Diouf’s goal.
73' Neymar splits the legs of Lopy before going down under a heavy challenge from Matusiwa.
71' No current Reims’ player has ever scored against Paris in Ligue 1. The last goalscorer for the Stade against PSG in the top-flight was Boulaye Dia, in September 2019.
69' Flips gets his timing right, catching his volley from 18 yards out cleanly following an unconvincing clearance from a corner. The midfielder looks to put his chance into the top corner but Donnarumma steps across his line and manages to get two hands to the effort!
67' NEYMAR PUTS IT WIDE! Lax play in Reims’ midfield turns the ball over to Mbappe, with the striker immediately threading a pass through for Neymar. The substitute takes a touch and looks to place his left-footed effort but he sends it narrowly wide!
65' Neymar strikes the free-kick but he places his effort far too centrally, providing Diouf with an easy save.
63' Mukiele plays a low cross towards the centre of the pitch where it receives a clever Vitinha backheel on its way through to Mbappe. The France international takes a touch to put it through Agbadou’s legs before winning a free-kick 25 yards from goal.
61' Mbappe takes a quick corner short and gets the ball back immediately but his far-post cross is sent over the crossbar by Danilo.
59' Flips’ corner from the left is taken to the near post but it comes off the head of Gravillon, who sends it wide.
Neymar
Carlos Soler
PSG
57' Galtier makes a change in attack, sending Neymar on in Soler's place.
55' Flips takes the outswinging corner to the edge of the penalty area but Lopy can’t turn his ambitious volley towards goal as it dribbles behind for a goal-kick.
54' Lopy teases a cross into the penalty area after receiving a pass from Zeneli but Soler turns it behind for a Reims corner-kick.
52' Balogun mishits a cross to the far post but Zeneli is able to gather it - preventing it from going out for a throw. The forward then cuts back inside and splits the legs of Fabian before hitting a low, near-post effort that Donnarumma manages to block effectively.
50' Gravillon manages to dig out a cross before the ball crosses the byline but an assured Marquinhos makes an emphatic clearance.
48' Having already been booked, it appears Galtier is not willing to risk a second red card with Verratti brought off at half-time. PSG look to have moved to more of a 4-2-3, with Bernat tucking into left-back in line with Danilo and Marquinhos.
Vitinha
M. Verratti
PSG
46' Verratti is replaced by Vitinha at the half.
46' Reims get the match restarted from the kick-off!
A man down, PSG will still be thinking about all three points - though they must give increased focus to the space left in behind when going forward. Mukiele can come inside to restore the three centre-back system with Sarabia playing slightly deeper to cover the space, though perhaps Hakimi’s introduction could assist with that as well. Reims will look to continue getting the ball to the clearly determined Zeneli, with the partnership between him and Balogun key for the hosts.
A cagey and tight first half at the Stade Auguste-Delaune II comes to a close with a flurry of activity but no goals as Reims and PSG head into the interval level. The visitors may have had more of the ball and fashioned more shots but they were not as threatening as their opponents, with Zeneli and Balogun causing Galtier’s side no shortage of headaches. The concern would deepen for the coach towards the end of the half, when Lopy’s sensational run drew two yellow cards - one each for Verratti and Ramos - before an outburst from the former Spain international saw him sent off four minutes from time.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: REIMS 0-0 PSG.
45' Flips’ corner is nodded down at the back post by Abdelhamid and turned over the crossbar by Agbadou.
44' Balogun takes Marquinhos on and looks to fire an acute-angle shot towards goal that is blocked behind for a corner.
M. Verratti
Yellow Card
PSG
42' Verratti is also shown a yellow for his cynical kick-out during Lopy's mazy run.
Sergio Ramos
Red Card
PSG
41' RAMOS IS SENT OFF! PSG DOWN TO 10! Ramos is incensed by his yellow card and has far too much to say to the referee, who has no qualms about showing the former Real Madrid centre-back a second yellow card. He's given his marching orders as Galtier looks on pensively.
Sergio Ramos
Yellow Card
PSG
41' Lopy runs through three or four PSG players, evading each tackle as he inches closer and closer to goal. Ramos eventually takes one for the team and brings him down - taking a yellow card in the process.
M. Munetsi
Yellow Card
Reims
39' This time it’s Munetsi who goes through the back of Soler, with the Reims midfielder picking up the first yellow card of the game.
38' Gravillon cuts across Soler and brings him down, giving PSG a free-kick 40 yards from goal which they opt to take short in order to keep play moving.
36' Balogun goes down inside the penalty area after a tussle with Marquinhos and Ramos but the referee is forced to award a free-kick to PSG instead of a penalty, with the linesman’s flag belatedly going up for offside.
34' GREAT REACTION SAVE! Flips sends a rather routine cross into the penalty area but it’s not dealt with by Danilo. Munetsi gets to the loose ball and takes a lovely first touch before hitting a shot on the half-volley that Donnarumma beats away with a big outstretched palm!
32' Soler slips a lovely pass through the lines into the penalty area for the run of Mbappe, who takes the ball in his stride but fails to beat Diouf with a curled effort as he sends his shot thumping against the chest of the goalkeeper!
30' Zeneli is putting on quite the show today, playing a lovely pass through the legs of Marquinhos for Lopy, whose shot from distance is blocked at the outset.
28' Reims have lost their last four Ligue 1 games against PSG without scoring, conceding 12 goals. They could lose a fifth encounter in a row without scoring against the same top-flight opponent for the second time in their history after Monaco in December 1978 (also 5)
26' Zeneli once again looks to dribble his way past two markers but, after foiling Fabian, he is unable to overpower Ramos as the centre-back wins a goal-kick for his side.
24' Flips charges into the penalty area and takes a scuffed shot towards goal which is blocked by Verratti. Marquinhos’ clearance is unconvincing but Lopy sends his ensuing half-volley high over Donnarumma’s goal.
22' The set-piece is teased into the penalty area towards the far post looking for Abdelhamid but the centre-back is unable to get on the end of it as it rolls behind for a goal-kick.
21' Soler clumsily runs through the back of Munetsi, giving Reims a free-kick 35 yards from PSG’s goal.
19' Balogun shows off his dribbling ability, using a bit of fancy footwork to get between Marquinhos and Ramos but short of options to pass to, the striker runs into one defender too many - losing possession on the edge of PSG’s penalty area.
17' Munetsi is showing his frustration after a potential Reims counter-attack is called to a halt following interference from the referee near the PSG penalty area. The winger looked to be away in space but a touch from the match official means it will have to be brought back.
15' Sarabia intelligently threads a left-footed pass into the penalty area for Mbappe but it’s hit just too far ahead of the run of the France international striker - inviting Diouf to charge off his line to claim the ball.
13' GREAT STOP! Mbappe centres a pass looking for Sarabia but Gravillon manages to get a toe to it. The defender pokes it back to the edge of the penalty area for Fabian, whose effort is denied by a flying Diouf!
11' Zeneli again causes havoc inside the PSG penalty area, beating Ramos before firing his curling cross against Mukiele, with Lopy’s eventual shot from distance ineffective.
10' CHANCE! Zeneli gets into the penalty area and drops his shoulder to beat Marquinos before centring a dangerous pass towards the penalty spot. Flips dives into prod the ball towards goal but it’s scrambled away desperately by Danilo!
8' PSG look very comfortable in the early stages to just keep possession in the opponent’s half, moving from left to right and back again to pile on the pressure without that final incisive pass to cap off the move.
6' The set-piece is taken short before being chipped into the penalty area, where it’s cleared easily by Bernat.
5' Zeneli looks to play a give-and-go in midfield but he’s bowled over by Marquinhos, who gives away a free-kick.
3' Sarabia drives forward through a gap in midfield and finds Bernat on the left side of the penalty area. The wing-back teases a dangerous cross into the middle of the box but it evades two team-mates before rolling behind for a goal-kick.
1' PSG get the match underway for the kick-off!
PSG make five alterations to the side that beat Nice one week ago. Danilo comes into the defence ahead of Hakimi, which allows Mukiele to play at wing-back. Vitinha is dropped in favour of Verratti in midfield while wholesale changes in attack mean Sarabia, Mbappe and Soler replace Neymar, Ekitike and the uninvolved Lionel Messi.
Reims make three changes to the XI that drew 1-1 with Troyes last time out. Lopy comes in for Van Bergen, while Muntesi and Zeneli are selected to replace the Jens-Lys Cajuste and the suspended Junya Ito respectively.
PSG SUBS: Hugo Ekitike, Keylor Navas, El Chadaille Bitshiabu, Ismael Gharbi, Neymar, Warren Zaire Emery, Sergio Rico, Achraf Hakimi, Vitinha.
PSG XI (5-2-3): Gianluigi Donnarumma; Nordi Mukiele, Sergio Ramos, Marquinhos, Danilo Pereira, Juan Bernat; Fabian Ruiz, Marco Verratti; Pablo Sarabia, Kylian Mbappe, Carlos Soler.
REIMS SUBS: Thibault De Smet, Samuel Koeberle, Nathanael Mbuku, Noah Holm, Patrick Pentz, Mitchell Van Bergen, Ibrahim Diakite, Martin Adeline, Kamory Doumbia.
REIMS XI (5-2-1-2): Yehvann Diouf; Bradley Locko, Yunis Abdelhamid, Emmanuel Agbadou, Andreaw Gravillon, Dion Lopy; Marshall Muntesi, Azor Matusiwa; Alexis Flips; Folarin Balogun, Arber Zeneli.
With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, let’s take a look at how the two sides are lining up - starting with our hosts!
Undefeated Paris Saint-Germain have the opportunity to put further distance between themselves and second-place Marseille, after their shock loss to Ajaccio earlier today. With the best attack and the best defence in the country, Christophe Galtier has started life as PSG coach emphatically - despite a number of narrow-margin victories.
A poor start to the domestic campaign has Reims inside the relegation zone, with just one win in their opening nine matches. Averaging just under two goals conceded per game in their last five, the job won’t get any easier against PSG, who have netted 10 times in their last three meetings with Reims.
