Jennings-Gabarra also won a gold medal at the 1996 Olympics.

    11Shannon MacMillan (60 goals)

  • Christen Press USWNTGetty Images

    9Christen Press (64 goals)

Since debuting in 2013, the forward has scored 64 international goals, getting on the scoresheet at both the 2015 and 2019 Women's World Cup tournaments, both of which were won by the United States.

One of her most significant goals for her country came at the latter, Press scoring a superb header to open the scoring in the 2-1 semi-final win over England.

  • Michelle Akers USWNTGetty Images

    6Michelle Akers (107 goals)

Michelle Akers is one of the USWNT's greatest ever players, with her record of 10 goals at a single Women's World Cup still to be beaten - despite her setting it at the first ever tournament back in 1991.

That haul, which included a brace in the final, would help the U.S. become world champions and she'd score another two in 1999 as well as they reclaimed their crown, having lost it four years earlier.

A strike in the Olympic semi-final win over Norway in 1996, as she and her team went on to win gold, is also among the most important of the 107 goals Akers netted for her country - in just 155 games.

The midfielder-turned-forward would win the World Cup again four years later as well as two Olympic gold medals before calling time on her career in 2021.

    2Mia Hamm (158 goals)

Among her most notable strikes is the only one in the Olympic semi-final victory over Brazil in 2000, one of 13 goals she scored at Olympic and World Cup tournaments.

  • Abby Wambach USWNT 07052015Getty Images

    1Abby Wambach (184 goals)

It was Abby Wambach who overtook Mia Hamm in the USWNT's scoring charts in 2013 and the forward remains at the top of tree today, having retired back in 2015 after winning the World Cup for the first time.

Wambach scored 184 times in 255 games, the most iconic of them all being the extra time winner in the Olympic gold medal match against Brazil in 2004. That was one of 22 goals she scored at World Cup and Olympic tournaments.

Christine Sinclair is the only player in the history of the sport to have scored more international goals than Wambach, the Canadian surpassing her in 2020.
