Nwabili is enjoying some consistent performances for the Chilli Boys this season and <a href="https://www.thesouthafrican.com/sport/soccer/psl-south-africa/kaizer-chiefs-news-transfers-signings-nwabali-friday-1-december-2023/" target="_blank">has reportedly attracted the interest of Amakhosi.</a>The 27-year-old custodian has managed to keep six clean sheets in 12 <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/psl/yv73ms6v1995b5wny16jcfi3" target="_blank">Premier Soccer League </a>appearances.It is a season he has established himself as a regular after struggling for game time in his debut 2022/23 PSL campaign where he featured in nine games across all competitions.

WHAT HAPPENED?

“Rumours are just rumours,” Nwabili told <a href="https://www.idiskitimes.co.za/dstv-premiership/nwabili-breaks-silence-on-chiefs-rumours/" target="_blank">iDiski Times.</a>“I’m not thinking about anything until I see something on my table. I’m focusing on my own club, helping them to be better this season.“I’m not worried about what’s going on; on social media, I’m just worried about Chippa."

WHAT NWABILI SAID

Nwabili is keen on reviving his international career with Nigeria ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals. He has one Super Eagles cap earned in July 2021 when he conceded four goals in an international friendly match against Mexico.“I wish to get a call-up but it’s not compulsory," he added."It’s not by my performance because everyone is doing well in different clubs, other goalkeepers have been doing well in their clubs.“If you are called up to your national team, kudos to you but I wish to represent my own country. I wish to wear my country’s jersey. I wish to wear it again," he explained.“I went there before and I wish to wear it again in a nice tournament. That’s my wish.”

With veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune having reached the twilight zone of his career, Chiefs are already in the hunt for his long-term replacement. It is not yet clear if Khune will continue playing next season and that makes Amakhosi keen on finding a new shot-stopper.Nwabili might be an option for Amakhosi to join Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen in the event Khune decides to hang up his boots.

Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro attended Chippa United's training session on Friday to watch Nwabili.The Portuguese trainer was also expected to watch the Chilli Boys' PSL match against Golden Arrows at Nelson Mandela Stadium on Saturday.
